Docomomo recognizes BU Law renovation

Docomomo US has recognized the Boston University School of Law Renovation and Addition project with a Citation of Merit in their Modernism in America Awards program. The Awards celebrate the best of modern architecture preservation practices, which balance financial viability, adaptation, and meaningful treatment of historic buildings.

The jury noted that the BU Law project “is a powerful example where the architects acted as preservation advocates, successfully changing the University’s and public’s perception of a building, while bringing significant details back to life in a way that reinvigorates the entire School of Law complex.”

MASS MoCA Building 6 Opens

On May 29th, the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MASS MoCA) opened Building 6, the third phase of development at the former factory complex in North Adams, MA. The expansion adds 130,000 square feet of new gallery and event space, featuring work by artists Robert Rauschenberg, Louise Bourgeois, James Turrell, Jenny Holzer, Laurie Anderson, and Gunnar Schonbeck.

Bruner/Cott’s work at MASS MoCA began in the early 90’s with a master plan for the yet-to-be imagined museum. The transformation of the site over the past 27 years has been a vital part of the economic revival of the city and a vibrant symbol of how innovative design thinking can transform the cultural experience.
