Members of the Bruner/Cott team joined colleagues and collaborators at the 2026 North Atlantic Regional SCUP conference, hosted March 8-10th in Hartford, Connecticut!

Framed around themes of integrated planning, resilience, and institutional transformation, this year’s conference emphasized the importance of aligning facilities, sustainability, and student experience in an era of constrained resources and urgent climate goals. Bruner/Cott was honored to contribute to the dialogue through two session presentations that reflect our ongoing work with higher education institutions:

Partner and Principal Jason Forney joined partners from Williams College and Perkins&Will to share how the college is coordinating multiple planning efforts—including decarbonization, housing, athletics, and dining—into a unified, actionable framework. The session explored how integrated planning can help institutions balance competing priorities, manage infrastructure constraints such as limited electrical capacity, and unlock opportunities for deep energy retrofits, accessibility improvements, and an enhanced student experience.

Senior Associate George Gard presented alongside collaborators from Harvard University and Redgate on the transformative renewal of Gund Hall. The session reframed deferred maintenance as an opportunity to advance institutional mission and achieve design excellence. Through an integrated planning approach, the session demonstrated how even highly constrained projects can catalyze meaningful, long-term transformation.

We returned to Boston excited to continue these conversations with our partners and collaborators. Thank you to the SCUP conference committees for hosting another successful event; we are looking forward to the SCUP National Conference this July in Minneapolis!
