Richard J. Resch Boathouse

One of two Bruner/Cott boathouse projects to date, we partnered with design experts Peterson Architects to revive MIT’s circa-1964 Harold W. Pierce Boathouse, now known as the Richard J. Resch Boathouse. A 1961 MIT graduate, Resch was a former rower for the Engineers. This project sought to revitalize the existing building and provide MIT Crew with a state-of-the-art facility that can keep pace with the program’s accelerated growth.

Situated on the Charles River along Memorial Drive, the 22,000-gsf building was first designed for one male varsity crew team. Today, it houses four Division I varsity squads for both men and women, as well as various MIT clubs, alumni groups, community groups, and the public at large.

Renovations included redesigned locker rooms; a new visitor’s changing room; expanded coaches’ offices and meeting spaces; larger, modern workout and training spaces; an increase in boat storage; and the extension of a wrap-around deck.
